Well, i agree with alot of the above.

But, from my point of view, factions is half the game that the first one was. Therefore, my logical reaction is that Factions should have been half the price, seeing as quite a few people have already cracked the game for mostly all its worth.

But, i love Anet, they produce amazing games, either small or big, it'll still be a good game. So my emotional reaction is not to care about the price and just buy it for the enjoyment, even if it only lasts a few weeks. I don't play non-stop, so my enjoyment will last for several months. Im earning, i have a job, so the cost of Factions isn't exactly a blow to my wallet.

And above all this, there are other games to play, many many many, so i see no reason for people to rant on all the time.

Thats my say.

Either they don't understand the problems with the system, and don't understand out objections to it, or they just don't care, and figure people will lap up whatever they dish out.

>_> Well i dunno what the general thoughts about money in US buh i feel like i got ripped off really bad..
I brought GW factions when it came out in Australia and it was about $80ish AUD and yet its only $49.95 in US?! Then i went to the currency calculator =] and it converted $49.95 USD into $64.8955 AUD.. (sorry if i'm sounding too cheap =]~)
Now what really disturbs me is that the story line is so short i finished it in 4 days or so, so yes i dont think i got what i payed for -_-"..
EDIT: Oh and yes Original GW was exactly the same price.

I'm not sure if it qualifies as a "storyline."

My view on fations: it sucks. Its not worth the money, the PVP part of the game is only worse. A month ago they nerfed IWAY, the HA build evreyone was complaining about and which made 70% of all the builds in there. They didnt do almost anything with that nerf, just slowed them down a bit but the damage is the same. And now they got a new uber skill - Order of Apostasy. IWAY and ranger spike will be the only 2 builds in HA in a few months. Theres no point of using ur whits and making up a new balanced build with many different charrs and skills that combine and work if every time u set foot in the underworld 5 warriors will chop u up under a minute. And there are almost no new good usable skills, most of them are just copys. A new player that wants 2 play pvp has no chance of getting fame in there any more. Anyonewho wants fame MUST play iway. Theres no other way anymore. I hate that build from the bottom of my heart , so does every player that truly loves pvp. That build should be baned, and anytime 5 w/r try to go inside the HA their games should crash.

Yes, I am a pessimist so my opinion is going to be slightly biased because of that. I was really hoping for so much more in Factions. The way it was advertised and hyped made me think it was going to be a huge world with plenty of diversity and things to do, not this watered down version of C1 that we got. At this point, I am rather annoyed at myself for wasting that $50+tax on the game (yes, I said waste because I played the game for 1 week, then got sick of it). I can't drag myself to get past the "noob" island primairly because you leave there at about lvl 15 and from there face lvl 20 mobs. This just makes the game that more redundant having to kill a near infinite amount of mobs. As to the whole mobs more difficult, what I found is that they are more annoying. Yea, bosses hit harder, and you get bum rushed by his cronies more, but all in all the difficulty really isn't all that much higher. All there is are more patrols and larger mob size, not an increase in the relative AI. Throwing huge mobs constantly upon a person does not difficulty make. The quests....well if you don't mind the FedEx type quests then you are fine. And yes, I know, most MMO's make use of FedEx quests, but not ones that have you walking all around the world. Sure, there are some quests like that, but they usually involve something major, not something minor like delivering X to Y only to go to Z then A and X again. Plus, you have to re-clear the whole area you were at before....ya not my idea of a fun time; at least give the option to avoid conflict.

All in all, I really think the game was rushed out because of the hype and was no where near done. Also, the whole debugging stage apparently never happened or the coders type with all thumbs. Now, it is appearing as though the designers have their heads so far up their asses they think they are smelling petunias. Oh, and for those of you that think that organizing as many people as possible and farming faction until your eyes bleed and you develop carpal-tunnel in your teenage years is the idea of being Elite, you obviously have no clue wtf you are talking about and are just another ANet fanboi. An Elite mission would be one where all the alliances battle it out and the winner gets the house for a week, or something else more dramatic to that extent. All this does is breed "elitist" farmers who think they are cool and have skills because they can devote so much more time than everyone else to the game.

Hey ANet, remember the no grind policy you had. Either fess up that the blizzard people had control of this chapter and/or taking over as lead design team, or stop implementing obvious grinds into the game. WoW is turning into EQ because of the designer now (Tigoles and his lackey from EQ), do not let GW turn into a very watered down version of WoW. With that note, I am off and hope that ANet starts to listen to more than just the minority of whiners and wannabe elitists out there.

It is my belief that as long as ANet maintains a stance that PvE must reside in its PvP shell, it won't have a long lifespan at all. Keeping everything in tune with the combat PvP mode is really doing an injustice on the amount of RPG elements that this game is going to need sooner or later. There is only so much money people are going to dish out for stuff that doesn't make their characters any better or different than what they already have or doesn't add anything new for them to do with that stuff. It starts to become more of a chore than a fun activity.

PvP and PvE should be entirely separate entities. Each mode is starting to feel the constraints of being a function of the other, and it only stands to get worse as time goes on. Give the PvP'ers more modes of battle, and their UAS. Give PvE a more fleshed-out RPG world.

As far as near-term future, let's just throw this out there: The new Zelda and Final Fantasy games are due out this fall (in the U.S.). Guild Wars: Chapter 3 is going to have to do a hell of a lot of convincing to win a purchase over either of those two for many PvE-style fans.

As a standalone game, Factions is definately not worth the $50.00. Compared to chapter one, which was the best $50.00 I ever spent, actually $150.00 for the three accounts in my home, it pales. Like others have said, Fedex quests, forced PVP grind, not for me thanks. I have purchased only one copy of Factions; I won't be purchasing any more. As far as chapter 3 goes, I won't purchase it until its been out for at least a month, to see what others have to say about it. That's only if I'm still playing then.....

First of all, I will have to say that I agree 100%.

People who like to PvP and PvE can't see that, or won't see that hardcore Roleplaying players or those very partial to PvE WON'T PvP much if AT ALL. It WON'T happen.

So to continue to merge them will do one of two things: #1. Weed out Roleplaying Players, forcing them to one of NC Soft's other games OR World Of Warcraft where the Roleplay element is still intact. OR #2. Completely kill off Guild Wars alltogether. They are hoping that the "FREE TO PLAY" element will keep people playing, and they are half true. BUT there are other games out there to fill the void, pay to play or not.

Also, it seems that ANET has a problem with adding in simple Roleplaying elements. These things are the things that keep many playing and that is good for them because it persuades them to buy the next Chapter. But it seems that they haven't gotten the message yet.

And Second of all, I said the same thing about CH: 3 --months ago.
They really have to bring the pain this Fall or Go Home.

But the brighter side of things is that Factions only has to last you 6 months.(For however much that's worth anyway) :P

I think Omega and Tide are completely right, and I wish Anet focus more on RP. But I'm completely baffled by some of their logic-defying decisions, and I don't know if this will happen. They seem to be so focused on forcing everyone to want what the devs want them to want.

I bought Guild Wars so I could play a RP-styled game online with a few friends. There are plenty of games that are more suited to that, but I chose Guild Wars because of the lack of a monthly fee. If they continue to try to "nudge us towards PvP," I don't think even a one-time fee will be worth it to me for future chapters.

So I waited till factions dropped to $30, and I still feel I got ripped off. I am a 100% PvEer and my /age deal said I had played 521 hours

The quests are downright terrible. Its one thing to make you run around the world, but when there is only 1 path through the city and it leads through 20 mobs, i want to scream. How many fights between the same 5 guys can you have in a 60 minute span?!? I know some of you like the gates, but you obviously don't play multiple chars. The first time through factions I watched all the movies did all the quests because I wanted to. Any char after that, I don't really care to play the same boring fedex missions, I want to get a run and do the quests and missions I enjoy. Don't force me to play those crappy city missions over and over. One time i had to go through 10 mobs to get to the next city. Then Mhenlo pops out and says, "no you can't enter, you must help togo". So I goto help togo and Mhenlo got STUCK!!! I had to rezone fight the mobs again then retalk to Mhenlo. If the gate wasn't there i could have just walked in then done the mission. I about had a heart attack i was so pissed.

I had 4 lvl 20 tyrian players. Speaking of lvl 20!, I was lvl 20 in the first night of Factions. It took me weeks to get lvl20 in GW1. I get 3000xp for walking 10 feet and talking to a guy! I feel cheated how easily they spoon feed you XP in this game. Lvl20 used to mean you earned it. Now any chump and be lvl20.

SUGGESTION: Make the world huge, and spread out the mob fights. Let us walk around a little without fighting the same damn 5 ememies every 5 seconds. If every guild wars is a walk 10 feet and fight mob game, i can't see them being fun for long.

//end of rant. So frustrated how much better GW1 was

I have pretty much gave up on this game. You can blame pvp for killing this game! I preored night fall chapter but at this point there is more to life than just this game.

All I can say where has the fun gone in pve!

no point kicking a dead horse, anet will do what they are going to do. we all know factions is joke! However it is not me who pays the price it will be ncsoft and anet!

Good for you people striking at the heart and minds of A-net, stating that things are going to go from bad to worse. While you guys are having this argument and I can see a few people putting WoW on the mantle; remember that games like WoW were created to enthrall money out of your wallet (via subtle pyramid scheme). I also bet you how much people are complaining about something in WoW right now like you guys are. A-net took a chance by doing things some people shook there head at and said “you’re crazy,” but no they still innovate. Sure the time schedules for each campaign seems tedious but looks what happened after Factions; Nightfall rose out of its ashes because you people screamed and yelled your heads off. I’m just going to sit here and wait to hear from it though; when people say, “Nightfall so lacked in this area….” and remember what you wanted was another prophecies with better martial.

I see the point of public opinion I really do, but sometimes it’s ridiculous how people can never see the fundamental reasoning behind something. Factions from all stand points was trying to send GW in a different direction, because not so much the people but the press stated that “Guild Wars is primarily a PvP game.” So they tried this new formula, and it somewhat worked but overall lacked. Now people are predicting doom for Guild Wars. Well if that’s the case enjoy paying monthly fees and subscribing fees (rack up that credit debt) because according to the financial analysts that’s what will happen to the Video Game medium.

The sound of things seem like you want a whole new Guild Wars all together, a sequel not an expansion (which will probably happen). Until then think about the alternatives to seeing the negative issues. Otherwise you might end up with super hyped games like Fable and find yourself at a loss for words. When that happens A-net will stop caring and think “oh well who cares now”.

*This is my opinion alone and does not represent A-net or the GW community.

...Wow, I'm not sure how I can even touch this thread. I mean, I disagree with virtually everything posted here so very strongly. However, I'm not suicidal enough to attempt an argumentative breakdown in a context where you've all managed to work yourselves up so much.

So I'll just state for the record that I enjoyed Factions more than Prophecies, that I find the PvE-to-PvP transitional aspect of it essential to my enjoyment of the game (and I'm primarily a PvE player), and that in terms of enjoyment-to-money ratios every Guild Wars chapter so far has performed phenomenally for me and I see no reason why this should diminish for at least a couple more games or so.

...and the "Factions isn't worth full price" argument is ridiculous. In terms of gameplay hours, art assets, game features and support alone it makes most commercial PC releases look lightweight (let's not even consider <5 hour console games or roster-update sports games). About the only other games that offer similar quantity for your buck are bloated monstrousities like Oblivion... And that sort of release is becoming increasingly rare.

-> Dissent posted, and /unsigned. ANet makes the game the way I like it, so yar boo sucks to you all.

And can you lay off the mutual commiseration society? The "we're all victims of ANet together" solidarity is so ludicrous that it's beginning to make my teeth itch.

I can be succint here, the future of GW looks quite healthy judging by the selling out of pre-order packs and the huge interest in the WPE of Nightfall.
So far I havent come across anyone who doesnt want to buy Nightfall.

As for the complaints, there is plenty to criticize about Factions, it was too short as a standalone game but combined with Prophecies I've enjoyed it immensely.
